What are the Important Steps of Fall Protection?

Fall protection refers to protecting a person from falling down from a height while working high above the ground. It can be categorized into two prominent groups, known as Fall Prevention and Fall Arrest. The first one is the method that is chosen by any safety personnel. The term fall prevention is quite easily understandable, and refers to any type of safety step that tries to safeguard workers from injuries due to falls.

Fall Prevention

Elimination is the first step in protecting from false car falls. This means finding an approach to any task which never puts any worker at a risk of getting injured due to falls.

Passive fall prevention is another step. This includes physical barriers which can keep away workers from edges which can lead to fall hazards.

Fall restraint generally makes use of a system which is just like a fall arrest system. Lifelines and full-body harnesses are used by workers to anchor them to a specific point, and the fall protection in construction specification is followed.

Fall Arrest

This is another step in the Fall Protection hierarchy. It is used in lifting and material handling, and is quite different from the steps that are mentioned in Fall Prevention. Fall Arrest systems keep workers safe from stopping them from falling down after they have slipped. These types of systems, similar to fall restraint systems, make use of anchor points, lifelines and full-body harnesses. But the lifelines that are present on fall arrest systems are either SRL (self-retracting lifelines) or EAL (energy absorbing lifelines).
